Overview

The Line Experience is on a mission to help individuals experience the joy and freedom of riding bikes. We provide low-cost bike rentals and skill building areas to progress in the sport while creating a welcoming community for riders of all levels. We also pay attention to the human-bike connection, and are known for excellent suspension service, bike-fitting, and custom bike builds.

Located in North Bend, Washington, our Experience Center is the gateway to PNW outdoor recreation. We promote responsible use of local parks and trails, providing equipment, coaching, and services to make biking accessible for everyone.    

Job Summary: The Retail Operations Manager oversees daily operations for The Line Experience's rental and retail departments across all locations. Success in this role requires strong business leadership, customer focus, people management, communication, interpersonal skills, and technology proficiency. Strategic thinking and decision-making aligned with company goals, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills are essential.

Responsibilities include:  

  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve customer service, grow revenue, and drive cost efficacy.

  • Analyzing product mix for retail sales and rentals, merchandising, marketing campaigns, and data trends. This includes participating in industry events to stay updated on trends and practices.

  • Ensuring efficient operations through data analysis, new technologies, vendor negotiations, and best pricing for goods and services. This includes taking advantage of efficiencies in inventory management, pre booking, and discount programs.

  • People development, staffing management, and cross-functional leadership / collaboration across departments.

Essential Duties

  • Recruit, interview, and manage employees for the shop staff for rental, retail sales, bike assembly and service/assembly

  • Maintain a healthy work environment and positive culture for employees, and a friendly, welcoming shop for customers

  • Manage daily operations, and staff at main shop and/or satellite physical locations

  • Monitor, report, and analyze sales performance metrics; identify opportunities for optimization and growth for retail and rental business in conjunction with company owners/leaders and finance

  • Manage inventory mix and ordering, including pre-booking strategy, vendor relationships, and optimization of pricing through strategic purchasing programs

  • Create inviting displays and merchandising that drive sales and add-on purchases

  • Operate and maintain Bike Rental Manager, Lightspeed, and other information systems required for shop management

  • Work with marketing and team members to create unique packages and promotions

  • Develop relationships and coordinate partnerships for demos and copromotions. 

 Additional Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours as needed to meet customer demands, including at least one weekend day each week.

  • Work locations include the North Bend shop or Trailhead locations

  • Some travel for partnerships and conferences as required

  • Adapt to changing project requirements, technologies, and priorities.

 Qualifications:  

  • Experience in rentals and retail management. Relevant work experience in the bike, outdoor industry or other retail setting desired 

  • Experience managing staff or comparable experience in a leadership role 

  • Teaching, coaching, and leadership experience 

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple tasks and customers in a fast-paced environment  

  • Excellent communication and ability to engage effectively with customers and team members  

  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution

  • Technical computer skills including Microsoft 365 and POS systems 

  • Experience in cash management and ordering  

  • High School diploma or higher

  • Operate typical office equipment including computers

  • Standing for extended periods up to an entire work shift

  • Bend, lift, open, and move products and fixtures up to 75 pounds frequently during work shifts 

  • Ability to regularly work a flexible schedule, including two weekend days (Fri, Sat, or Sun) in each two-week period, twice per month.

  • Working conditions include indoor and outdoor work in all seasons and weather

  • Travel via car (< 10% of time) on regional trips for partner and vendor visits and festivals/events.

Salaried position starting at $70K/year potential to earn performance-based compensation.  .
