About the Role 

We’re hiring a Retail & Business Operations Manager to lead our retail culture while also managing end-to-end business operations. This role blends people leadership, operational organization, and customer experience design

You will develop and coach the retail team, run operational systems for scheduling, facilities, and inventory, and ensure welcoming and mission-aligned experiences for riders of all types—from newcomers to competitive athletes. You will also partner closely with our Rental, Service, and Marketing Managers and serve as the primary on-site leadership presence. 

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with excellent retail instincts, high energy, strong communication skills, and the ability to coach and uplift a customer-facing team in a dynamic environment. 

 

What You’ll Lead 

Customer & Cultural Leadership 

  • Create a welcoming environment for riders of all ages and backgrounds 

  • Ensure the team follows The Line’s customer experience principles 

  • Support riding pathways (family, fitness, sightseeing, gravel, racing, etc.) 

  • Build a curious, educational, and fun shop culture 

Retail Sales & Product Education 

  • Lead from the floor as sales and customer engagement leader 

  • Train staff in consultative sales and product education 

  • Own merchandising presentation and in-store product clarity 

  • Stay current on gravel and mountain tech, trends, and components 

  • Partner with Marketing on promotions and events 

Team Leadership 

  • Hire, onboard, train, and coach retail staff 

  • Conduct 1:1s and support employee development 

  • Build staffing schedules and coverage models 

  • Address escalations with empathy and service recovery 

Store Operations 

  • Oversee daily operations across retail, rental, and service 

  • Lead opening/closing as needed and manage keyholder responsibilities 

  • Coordinate staffing for peak periods, weekends, and events 

  • Maintain shop cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards 

  • Partner with Café and Events teams on facility and program needs 

Payroll, HR & Compliance 

  • Approve payroll, hours, PTO, and break compliance 

  • Run payroll across departments 

  • Maintain employee documentation and onboarding 

  • Support policy and standards implementation 

  • Ensure compliance with labor and safety requirements 

Inventory & Vendor Coordination 

  • Maintain retail inventory accuracy and replenishment 

  • Lead cycle counts and annual audits 

  • Manage ordering, receiving, and vendor communication 

  • Coordinate special orders and customer timelines 

Financial & Business Support 

  • Monitor labor efficiency and staffing cost 

  • Support loss prevention and inventory control 

  • Identify opportunities to improve experience and revenue 

  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and sales planning

Qualifications 

Required 

  • 5+ years retail experience (cycling/outdoor/sporting goods preferred) 

  • 5+ years leadership or team coaching experience 

  • Strong customer communication and service instincts 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and systems 

  • POS & inventory software proficiency; Microsoft productivity tools 

  • Working knowledge of gravel or mountain bikes (or willingness to learn) 

  • Weekend availability

  • Full time on-site

Preferred 

  • Formal retail training experience 

  • Bilingual or multilingual 

  • Lightspeed POS experience
